PADI TEC 40
The goal of the PADI Tec 40 course is to enable divers to safely have longer dive times and plan the resultant decompression profiles. In Tec 40, you'll use Nitrox as your bottom gas and up to 50% Nitrox as a decompression gas, increasing your available bottom time. The course covers equipment considerations, oxygen tracking, decompression dive planning along with practical experience. You will qualify to make limited decompression dives to 40 metres/130 feet.
The PADI Tec 40 course is where you transition from recreational scuba diving to technical diving. It’s a great place to start, because it’s the first subdivision of the full PADI Tec program and bridges the gap between no-stop diving and full technical deep decompression diving. It provides you with an opportunity to gain exposure to tec diving and learn and practice entry level tec diving skills, without you having to make the larger commitment (in terms of equipment, time and cost) for a full Tec certification. Then you can continue with the Tec 45 and Tec 50 courses.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
The Tec 40 course consists of seven online independant knowledge development sessions, two evening classroom sessions, 4 practical application sessions and 4-6 training dives. You'll learn about technical diving risks and responsibilities, technical diving equipment configurations and useage, team diving concepts, thinking like a technical diver, handling underwater problems, extensive and up to date decompression theory and gas planning. We will guide you on planning decompression dives so you don't just blindly follow your dive computer or decompression software.
- You will use decompression software and dive computers to plan and make decompression dives with no more than 10 minutes of total decompression and not deeper than 40 metres/130 feet.
- You will use a single cylinder of decompression gas with up to 50 percent oxygen (EANx50) to add conservatism to the required decompression.
Since it’s part of the course, your PADI Tec 40 course training credits toward the PADI Tec 45 and Tec 50 courses.
THE GEAR YOU USE
As an introduction to Tec diving, at the Tec 40 level, you don’t need to make the full commitment to buying all the Tec gear. After all, you may not be certain if this new adventure is for you. You may be able to use lot’s of your current gear and add a stage bottle. You could be introduced to an H-valve, or if comfortable, you may use a sidemount configuration or doubles. Please contact the dive store and chat with us about options. You’ll likely need some new gear, but with some careful planning and smart purchases, you can acquire some new gear that you’ll use well beyond the course and even in your recreational dives.
- Even though you can complete this course using a single back mount configuration we recommended to use either Sidemount or double back mounted twins cylinders
- Regulators
- Primary & back up mask
- Cold water fins with Spring Straps
- Drysuit & Thermal Underwear
- 2 multi gas computers
- Primary torch with a "goodman" handle
- Back up torch
- Cutting tool
- Wrist mounted slate
- Wet Notes (waterproof notebook)
- Surface Marking Device (SMB) with Spool
- Deco Bottle ( 40 or 80 cuft) with DIN Valve
- Dedicated regulator for Deco Bottle (DIN 1st stage. 40" LP hose, 6" HP hose & SPG)
