Prerequisite: PADI Open Water E-Learning

The PADI Open Water Diver course typically involves both confined water (pool) and open water dives, where you'll learn essential scuba diving skills and safety procedures. Expect to practice skills like regulator recovery, mask clearing, and buoyancy control, culminating in four open water dives where you'll demonstrate proficiency. You'll also learn about dive equipment, dive planning, and basic underwater navigation

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Confined Water Dives:

These are typically done in a swimming pool or a shallow, controlled environment. You'll learn fundamental skills like breathing underwater, buoyancy control, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and emergency procedures such as an out-of-air situation.

  • Open Water Dives:

You'll progress to open water, usually a lake or ocean, where you'll complete at least four dives. These dives allow you to apply your skills in a real-world setting.

  • Skills Practice:

During the open water dives, you'll demonstrate skills you learned in confined water, including buoyancy control, regulator exchange, mask clearing, and controlled emergency swimming ascent (CESA).

  • Dive Equipment:

You'll learn how to assemble, use, and care for scuba diving equipment, including the regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), fins,  dry suit, dive computor, mask, and snorkel.

  • Safety Procedures:

You'll learn about dive planning, buddy checks, hand signals, and how to handle common underwater situations safely.

  • Navigation:

You'll learn basic navigation skills using a compass and natural underwater features.

  • Progressive Depth:

The open water dives will gradually increase in depth, typically starting at shallower depths (around 12 meters) and progressing to a maximum depth of 18 meters.

  • Enjoy the Experience:

The open water dives are a chance to explore the underwater world and enjoy the sensation of breathing underwater while applying your newly acquired skills.

  • Drysuit Course:
    • During your drysuit course, your instructor will teach you how to control the air in your drysuit along with your buoyancy. You'll also learn about different types of drysuits, basic drysuit repairs and maintenance.
